Diagnosis & Pain Management — Ocean Endodontics, San Francisco

Dental pain can be confusing. It can radiate from one tooth to another, feel like it is coming from the upper jaw when it starts in the lower, or come and go without a clear pattern. Getting the diagnosis right is the most important step in getting you comfortable, and it is a core strength of an endodontist.

At Ocean Endodontics, diagnosis is a deliberate process, not a guess. Dr. Leong reviews your history and symptoms, then performs focused tests, such as gentle temperature and pressure testing, to identify which tooth is truly involved and whether the pulp inside it is healthy, inflamed, or infected. Digital X-rays and, when needed, cone beam 3D imaging reveal detail that everyday dental films cannot, including cracks, extra canals, and infection in the surrounding bone.

Because we specialize in the inside of the tooth, we can often distinguish a problem that needs a root canal from one that does not, and we can recognize pain that is coming from a cracked tooth, a sinus issue, or a bite problem. That clarity spares you from unnecessary treatment and points you toward the care that will actually resolve the pain.

When a diagnosis points to treatment we provide, we can often begin the same day. When the answer lies outside endodontics, we will tell you plainly and coordinate with your general dentist or the right specialist. Either way, you leave with an honest explanation of what is happening and a clear plan for relief.

This page is for general education and is not a substitute for an in-person examination. An evaluation confirms whether diagnosis & pain management is right for your situation.
